KnoxGeist

Created in 2017, this project was guided by the notion that every place has a story to tell. A story that is influenced and completed by an individual’s presence in that place.

Through spoken word, found sound, and original music, the narratives provide a glimpse of the history and culture of a particular location. Among the buildings, parks, walkways - listeners are encouraged to engage, experience, and reflect.

RB Morris, poet laureate (2017-2019) for the City of Knoxville, provided the voice, and local historian Jack Neely, contributed copy and historical context.

Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival included the project on their website and mobile app as a ‘Knoxville Experience’ during the festival in March 2017-2018.

Visit Knoxville has also used it on their website as a virtual walking tour.

KnoxGeist was originally titled walkwithme and was the first Walk With Me project.
